Johns Hopkins: Med School Intensive

This program focused on developing the necessary skills to pursue medicine. We studied each organ system and their possible problems. We then learned about how common and deadly diseases are spread with a focus on how to treat and prevent them. We also practiced physical skills such as suturing and dissection. I applied my newfound knowledge to the study and treatment of chronic migraines, zeroing in on breakthroughs using calcitonin gene-related peptides. The program recognized the importance of learning life-saving skills in medicine, allowing us to practice tying tourniquets, inserting an IV, staunching bleeding, and intubating a patient. We also learned to conduct standardized patient interviews and were able to sit in on a PhD dissertation.
